Pipestone pipes have been made for more than 3000 years. Early pipes were made using flint tools and would take months to complete. Pipes were passed down to be used while the stem was often buried with the pipe carrier. This pipe comes with a twisted stem which represents the crooked path of life. We are on a journey, the red road, but we often do not take the straightest path. Since the pipe bowl was often passed down the stem was made and or decorated by the holder with things special to him or her.
