This pipe style is called an elbow and is a very old style pipe used my both men and
women, but some today consider it a woman's style pipe. The elbow style pipe is much older than the plains style pipe which today is the most popular style pipe.  Many early pipes were
elbow styles and where decorated with a crest on the shank of the bowl.  Some of these pipes were huge and had a five foot stem, the bowl sat on the ground and
the stem was passed around the circle during the ceremony.
