Order your pre-cut out shapes for making your own pipe. The stone is easily carved with files, cut with a hack saw and sanded with sand paper. The stone appears to be pink or gray but will be the red pipestone or black color once sanded and polished.
Until Later this fall we have limited availability of stone to cut out medium or large blanks please call us before ordering. We will have more stone this fall when the quarriers get out more stone. A small amount of stone has come in large blanks are still limited

Please do not assume all Pipestone is the exactly the same. There are other quarries in the United States which have a red clay formation stone each quarries stone is different. I have tried to carve stone from all these quarries and they are much harder than the stone from the quarries in pipestone. We will do our best to pick out a nice piece of stone for you but the size and thickness of stone varies if you need a special size please contact us (by phone 507-825-3734 or email [email protected] before or when placing your order) so you get the piece you need. On average a 4 X 6 piece of stone 1 1/4 inch thick weighs about 4 pounds and will make a large plains, 4 winds, or an effigy pipe. Check our Supply Store for decorative materials, carving tools, stem materials and pipemaking kits.. Limited quantities of stone are available.
(Pipestone is clay formation stone found between layers of quartzite. Our stone is hand quarried by Native American Indians at the Pipestone National Monument it is a long labor intensive process. Since the stone is a natural formation it may have inclusions which are part of the stone. Both the red and the black stone may have hard spots, the red may have spots of iron ore and black may have white or black lines which are harder to carve.
These same features often make for a beautiful and unique finished product. But if you just do not like the stone that you have been sent you may return it we will gladly exchange it for a fee. The stone is guaranteed to be free of naturally occurring cracks or we will replace the stone free of charge.
The black stone pictured is quarried in Kenora Canada. The red Pipestone or catlinite, is quarried from here in Pipestone Minnesota, it is a sedimentary rock basically formed as solidified clay. Pipestone is a soft stone, fragile and needs to be handle with respect and care. Keepers can not assume responsibility for this inherent fragility; sales are nonrefundable for both pipes and stone. if your stone or pipe arrives broken please take pictures of the damage it send to us and return it to your post office with original box, we insure all packages. Contact us immediately we will work with you to place a claim and we will replace your order as quickly as possible.
